I thought it was set for 2017.

Didn't he not give us his 'cast iron guarantee' for a referendum on the EU this term? The man is a liar and anyone that votes conservative on this basis is wasting their vote. it will not happen.

He may not want us to leave but as far as I can see he is quite prepared to move forward if we do.

Spot on. Negotiating a better and fairer deal before a referendum is perfectly reasonable and sensible. It gives the voters a more balanced view of what they are voting for.

Hopefully Cameron can negotiate on a free trade bases

We pay in some as expected but can take back laws on immigration , benefits , etc

Re: In/Out Referendum.
I think he might come to regret this pledge. He doesn't want us to leave but the vote will be close (assuming we get one, of course).

And i suppose The Lisbon Treaty isn't an EU Constitution.

Just give us a bludy chance to vote on this issue, get it over and done with and we can all move on!

Nope, he's not said that at all & wouldn't get away with it.

If he gets his so called reforms, we won't get a vote, thats the point. He will say he has achieved what the British public want and therefore a vote would be obsolete.

The referendum oughta only permit voters with an IQ of 130+.

This excludes Cameron & Blair.
Hth.

'Let's be clear if we leave the EU and want the same trading rights with it as Norway and Switzerland we have to comply with the EU rules as they do.'

Why? Our economy is more than twice the size of Norway and Switzerland combined.

The less bureaucracy, the better. The level of it in Brussels is sickening. Get rid of it.

"The Greek government says Germany owes Greece nearly €279bn (£204bn; $303bn) in war reparations for the Nazi occupation during World War Two."

That should go down well then.

"Reformed is his get out clause in my view, he always drops it in. "

I really don't see a problem with that as makes perfect sense to me.

Whatever way it's spun though, people will get a chance to vote to stay in & or get out. That's the bottom line.

Re: In/Out Referendum.
I agree with Stewie, I really don't see how it will gain Cameron many more votes. It may win back a few UKIP supporters, but it'll be a few if any.

I think that those Tory votes that have gone to UKIP have been exhausted now & in that regard if they gain any more support than they currently have than now then it'll more likely come from cheesed off Labour supporters than the Tories.

Equally, I don't see how he is conning anyone. Yes. he'll likely get a few bits he wants from the EU if he's still PM & try & sell it that way & recommend to stay in.

I've little doubt he will, but I'm not sure how that's a con exactly if you actually get a vote.

Staying in & or out will be based on the arguments & how people feel. If you get actually get a vote then it's no good moaning about the result whatever way it goes.

If it's one of the main things that someone is concerned with then you have been told as clear as day you're not getting a chance to vote with a Labour government made of them directly & or with the SNP/ Liberals support.

I really can't see UKIP getting more than 3 MP's at most in order to form any sort of meaningful coalition with the Tories, but time will soon tell on that.

Re: In/Out Referendum.
Kippers got 27% of the Euro elections poll last year so only 24% of the remaining 73% would be needed to vote out for us to leave the EU. So there's a good chance of an out.

Re: In/Out Referendum.
Asked if holding a referendum was a cast-iron pledge, he said: "Absolutely. We will hold that referendum by the end of 2017; it will be a referendum on an in-out basis – do we stay in a REFORMED European Union or do we leave?"

Reformed is his get out clause in my view, he always drops it in.

You've neglected the bit about Dave's intention to negotiate better terms before a referendum.

Re: In/Out Referendum.
I think to be fair to Cameron he hasn't said 'We will have a referendum and this is what I want to happen'. He has just said 'We will have a referendum' so he hasn't really done or said anything to fool anyone.
